Pirates Down Reds, 6-3
|
Cincinnati got a valiant performance from pitcher John Brown, but it wasn't enough to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburgh won the game, 6-3. Brown threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The win belongs to Dante Verduzco in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Justin Ambrose took the loss for Cincinnati. With the win, Pittsburgh upped its record to 27-27.
Pittsburgh used a clutch hit from Nick Rooney to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the 17th inning to put the Pirates ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 8 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments, Rooney said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
