Minnesota, Texas Execute Trade

In a move that has fans in both cities buzzing, the Minnesota Twins and the Texas Rangers have agreed to a deal that will have a 5th round draft pick heading to Texas in exchange for 31-year old RHP Jason Hammons and 32-year old RF Mike Mentzer. Provided they pass a physical, the players should be with their respective teams in time for tomorrow's games.
Crunching the numbers on Hammons for the year, he has made 24 relief appearances, recorded no saves and compiled a 4-0 won-lost mark and 2.70 ERA. In pitching 23.1 innings, he has totaled 21 strikeouts and 6 walks.

Buerster and Davis Traded

Reports have surfaced that Detroit has agreed to send 20-year old minor league CF Tony Buerster to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for 20-year old minor league SS Brett Davis. "It's a done deal," said one executive speaking on the condition of anonymity. "I'm surprised word got around so quickly. We just signed off on this an hour ago." The deal apparently is awaiting physicals before an official announcement is made by either team.
Career-to-date Davis is hitting .289 with a total of 6 home runs.

Blue Jays Ault Nails Down 500th Save

All you have to do is stroll in from the bullpen, get three outs, and you ring up a save. Sounds easy, doesn't it?
Just ask Zach Ault of the Toronto Blue Jays, the newest member of the elite 500-save club. He racked up his 500th in a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies to reach that lofty level.
"No, it's never easy. Every save opportunity is an ordeal for me. Especially this one. Since I got number 500, I can now enjoy it. But tomorrow it all starts over again. The pressure never ends."
Ault has registered 500 saves in his career with a 54-43 record and a 1.82 ERA.
