Washington Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
|
The Washington Nationals beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-3. Washington pitcher and Melbourne, Australia, native Ed Thorpe Jr. led the way. The winner was Washington reliever Jakub Kvacek, now 1-2. The loser was Tim Franco. Washington raised its record to 40-21 with the win.
Lirak Bazhunaishvili was the walk-off hero for Washington. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Nationals right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I was a little disappointed," said Toronto manager Max Meany. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
