The New York Yankees overcame a good performance by Houston shortstop Tony Casas to knock off Houston, 6-3, at Yankee Stadium. Casas went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times. By defeating Houston, the last-place Yankees improved to 29-35.
In the bottom of the fourth inning of a 2-2 tie, New York right fielder Erik Gretzky reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. It broke the deadlock and put New York on top, 3-2.
"That's a solid team effort right there," said Gretzky. "Everyone's feeling positive after that win."
