Nationals Sneak Past Diamondbacks, 2-1
|
Washington starter Ed Thorpe Jr. put a stranglehold on the Arizona offense. The left-hander had complete command of his slider in leading the Nationals to a 2-1 win. Jakub Kvacek collected his 19th save. Washington has now won 3 straight, while the Diamondbacks have lost 3 in a row.
Washington used the timely hitting of Jason Hayes to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Hayes. "And not try to do too much."
