Marlins Thrill Fans with 1-0 Win
|
Toronto got a terrific performance from pitcher Edward Saunders, but it wasn't enough to beat the Miami Marlins. Miami won the Marlins Park contest, 1-0. Saunders threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Miami reliever Sean Geer picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5. Zach Ault shouldered the loss. Miami now sits in third place in the National League East Division at 33-38.
Miami won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and Zach Ault on the mound for Toronto, shortstop Rafael Irizarry hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Marlins fans to their feet.
Afterward, Marlins manager Henri Richard was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
