Late Magic Gets California 7-4 Win
|
The California Angels topped the Montreal Expos by the score of 7-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to right fielder Rusty Ney. Ney went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Angels on the day. California pitcher Trevor Sharp got the win, upping his record to 3-2. William de Jesus got the loss. Dave Jackson closed the game out for California, earning his 13th save.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Saulo Maina came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Montreal pitcher William de Jesus, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting California on top, 5-3.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Maina.
California goes to 40-35, Montreal to 32-41.
