Royals Snag 3-1 Win
|
The Kansas City Royals had to overcome a good performance from Pittsburgh pitcher Stan Stirnweiss to claim a 3-1 win at PNC Park. Stirnweiss went 9 innings and allowed 3 runs. Kansas City reliever Asa Hahn was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Stan Stirnweiss. The save was credited to Kyle Curve, his 19th.
Kansas City used the clutch hitting of Mike Jaquez to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Royals ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Jaquez called the triumph "a good team win."
The Royals are now 50-28, while the Pirates fall to 39-40.
