5-for-6 Day for Jones
After a 5-hit effort to lead St. Louis's 16-7 victory over the Washington Nationals, third baseman McGwire Jones told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Major League Baseball-level is really something special."

The 24-year-old player earned his accolades today at Nationals Park with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Nationals.

"His swing is getting there," said Cardinals skipper Jeff Jones Jr., who spoke glowingly of Jones after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. McGwire did that to perfection today."

McGwire Jones doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Jim Sanders in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off George Kellum in the 6th, struck out in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.

In his season totals, Jones has 16 home runs, .360 BA, .414 OBP, 38 RBIs and 54 runs scored. He has played in 70 games.
