Angels Suffer 13-1 Drubbing
|
The Chicago White Sox stopped the California Angels, 13-1, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The White Sox got a big game from John Sanders, who went 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Steve Cooper got the win, improving to 8-4. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Steven Wolf, credited with the save, is now 2 for 4 in save opportunities.
Chicago relied on the hitting of EugĂȘnio Asceno to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put the White Sox on top, 5-0. For the game, Asceno had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I thought we played a nice game," Sanders told the Chicago Citizen. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The White Sox, at 62-35, lead by one game in their division.
