|
The St. Louis Cardinals knocked off the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3, at Great American Ball Park. McGwire Jones was a big reason St. Louis won. The third baseman was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Kenji Yokoyama. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 4-1. Cincinnati has now lost 5 consecutive games.
Jones had a timely hit for St. Louis in the top of the ninth. With Cincinnati trailing 3-2, he turned a 0-1 sinker into a 2-run home run. It was his 21st home run of the season, making it 4-3, St. Louis.
Cincinnati manager Jimmy Silveira II said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
