New York Mets starter Isaac Spikes turned in an exceptional performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, resulting in a New York win, 7-2. The second-place Mets are now 67-64, the Pirates 50-81.

New York used a well-timed hit by Dave Vargas to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Mets ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Vargas told the New York Chronicle.
