The New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians, 4-3, at Yankee Stadium. New York first baseman Corey Penson had an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was New York reliever Chad Curry, now 3-0. The loser was Joe Zeiset. The win gives New York a season record of 79-66.
Penson had a timely hit for New York in the bottom of the eighth. With Cleveland trailing 3-1, he turned a 1-0 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 50th home run of the season, making it 4-3, New York.
Penson told a New York Bulletin reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
