The Seattle Mariners beat the Cleveland Guardians, 2-0. Seattle pitcher and Cottonwood Heights, Utah, native Bryce Schimmoeller led the way. Schimmoeller, the winner, moves to 4-0. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 2 walks. The loss drops Cleveland to 11-12.
Seattle took a 2-0 lead on Tony Vargas's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Cleveland pitcher Joe Zeiset in the top of the eighth.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Vargas.
