Pena Slaps 5 Hits

Matt Pena really sizzled at the plate in today's 36-1 win over Twins. The Princeton designated hitter blistered Elizabethton for 5 hits in 7 at-bats.
"Pena was too tough to get out today," the Twins skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
Matt Pena struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Kanenori Ikeda Jr. in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and struck out in the 8th.
In 67 games this season Pena has batted at a .313 pace with 83 hits and 18 home runs.

de Gelder Hits 3 Homers Against Danville

Fans are still buzzing after Kingsport whipped the Danville Braves by the score of 11-9 today at Hunter Wright Stadium.
Michael de Gelder smashed three home runs in the contest, a feat that would be a career highlight for most players and few fans ever see. In a tremendous performance, the catcher bashed out 3 hits in 5 at-bats, had 3 RBIs and scored 3 times.
At the postgame press conference, de Gelder said it was an "unbelievable" feeling to hit three home runs in a game.
"Getting one homer is special, and two is great," de Gelder said. "Three is just... wow."
Michael de Gelder grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Chris Roddy in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Tony Fox in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Dan Mondro in the 8th.
During the current season de Gelder is batting at a .219 clip with 6 home runs and 13 RBIs. He has played in 34 games and scored 23 times.

Bonaddio Bashes 5 Base Hits

Billings left fielder Teddy Bonaddio added his name to the record books with a 5-hit spree at Philadelphia Phillies Complex today, but found his special moment spoiled when the Philadelphia (APP) Phillies took a shootout win over the Mustangs.
"I would have much preferred getting only a couple of hits and winning the game," he confessed to reporters afterward. "It's hard to go back into the clubhouse and celebrate a 5-hit game when you also lost."
Mustangs manager R.J. Swindle called Bonaddio's game "a once-in-a-lifetime moment."
"It's a shame the guy can't really enjoy it," the skipper said. "It's also a shame what happened with our pitching today, but at least that we can try to fix."
Teddy Bonaddio doubled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and singled in the 7th.
This year Bonaddio is hitting .314, produced 41 RBIs and 7 home runs, scored 39 times and gotten on base at a .395 rate.
