Grays Lose By a Run at New Jersey, 4-3
|
The New Jersey Bears downed the Virginia Grays, 4-3, at Bear Den at Waterfront Park. The Bears were led by Wayne Shafer. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Stanley Weber, the winning pitcher, is now 4-2. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 4 and walking 1. New Jersey, at 23-25, sits in 4th place in the Founding Fathers League Northeast.
The Bears got a big at-bat from shortstop Raúl Rodríguez. For the game, Rodríguez was 1-3 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 2nd triple of the season gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Rodríguez. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
