Griffins Lose Again, 6-3, to Lions
|
California second baseman Quentin Ames contributed to his team's 6-3 win over the Washington Griffins. Ames, who is a five-time Zachary Matthews Award winner, went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Lions. Esteban Encarnación was credited with the save for California, his 17th of the season. The losses continue to mount for Washington, which has now dropped 6 in a row.
In the bottom of the sixth, California pinch hitter Jerry Ackerman put his team on top. With one out and the bases loaded, he hit his 3rd double of the year. Washington pitcher Ricardo Ortíz served it up. Just like that, the Lions were ahead, 4-3.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Larry Gomberg told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
