Jesús González never let the Jacks get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Jethawks to a win, 1-0. Illinois reliever Juan Domingo was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Andrew Bermúdez took the loss for Nevada. The win brings the Jethawks to 2-8, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.

Ercole Mancina was the walk-off hero for Illinois. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Jethawks first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"It's great when the crowd gets into it," González said.
