3 Home Runs for Martínez Sunday, June 29th , 2098 Massachusetts Patriots third baseman Fernando Martínez put on a dazzling display of power today at Glory Field against the Tennessee Hounds. In the 8-3 Patriots victory Martínez penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Tennessee manager Steven Luker said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 33-year-old had 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Martínez said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Fernando Martínez hit a solo-shot off George Fox in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Pat Frank in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Pat Frank in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th. Looking at his stats this year, Martínez has compiled a .205 batting average, while hitting 14 home runs and driving in 29 runs. He has played in 70 games and scored 21 runs. |
