José Vázquez had a sensational 2098 season in the Northern League. The LaCrosse pitching machine has been proclaimed this year's Outstanding Pitcher Award recipient.

This season Vázquez starred with a 14-2 record. In 24 starts he gave up 120 base hits and struck out 125 in 178.1 innings with a 1.21 ERA.

He received 20 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Glenn Donnellson of the Duluth Bulldogs finished second in voting, while Dave Peters of the Columbia Captains finished third.
