A pitcher being voted the most valuable player in his league is a rare feat, and this year it did indeed happen. The 2098 Mississippi League Hitter of the Year has gone to Meridian Enforcers ace Daniel Powell after a stellar 18-2 season.

In 25 starts he piled up 164 innings, 177 strikeouts, 20 walks and a 1.15 ERA. Powell held opposing hitters to a .168 batting average and compiled a 7.9 WAR along the way.

He received 15 first place votes out of a possible 20. Tony Smith of the Hattiesburg Bullets finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while James Hughes of the Tupelo Psycho Squirrels finished third.
