Johnson Slugs Freedom to 8-5 Win
|
A 4-RBI performance from right fielder Jason Johnson, who finished 3rd in the FFL in extra base hits with 64 in 2101, led the Pennsylvania Freedom to a win over the Wisconsin Lumberjacks, 8-5. The win belonged to Ryan Smith in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Denny McSwan took the loss for Wisconsin. Alberto Mercado picked up the save for Pennsylvania, his 7th of the year.
Pennsylvania used the timely hitting of Javier Reynoso to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Freedom on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Pennsylvania manager Rob Chapman.
Pennsylvania, now 8-13, is off to a slow start.
