King goes 3-for-4 to Ignite Lions Offense
|
With first baseman Billy King leading the charge, the California Lions defeated the Utah Scorpions, 9-5, at King Coliseum. King, who finished 2nd in the GEL in OPS with .837 in 2098, was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The Scorpions, now 44-25, have lost 4 in a row.
The Scorpions had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Lions going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old third baseman Santiago Franco came to the plate. Franco hit a 3-run home run on a first pitch fastball from Utah hurler Rafael Ortíz. It was Franco's 8th home run of the year.
