Virginia Squanders Big Game by Carlisle
|
The Maryland Admirals spoiled a good performance by Virginia left fielder Denver Carlisle, bumping off Virginia, 8-5, at Founders Field. Carlisle went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. Reliever José Navarro picked up the win. His record improves to 4-1. Rafael Robles took the loss. Patrick Rhodes was credited with the save, his 21st in 25 tries.
David Haight, who is tied for 3rd in the FFL in wins with 7, had a timely hit in the top of the fifth inning. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Maryland pitcher hit a run-scoring single. That put the Admirals in front, 2-1.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Maryland manager Andrew Cole.
The second-place Admirals have won 4 in a row.
