Pirates Score Late, Topple Orioles, 4-2
|
The Baltimore Orioles got a superb performance from pitcher DL Hall. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Pittsburgh. The Pirates won the game, 4-2. Hall threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. Evan Fitterer, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-5. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Luis Perez Ruiz closed the door for Pittsburgh, picking up his 8th save of the year.
Pittsburgh used a clutch hit from Darryl Palmer to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Pittsburgh manager .
The win gives the Pirates a record of 15-35.
