Nationals Handle Red Sox, 7-4
|
The Washington Nationals topped the Boston Red Sox by a score of 7-4. Leading the way was left fielder Alpha Pettaway. Pettaway went 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Nationals. Alan Farrell got the win, improving to 4-7. He worked 7.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Zach Pop finished the game for Washington and earned his 2nd save.
Pettaway contributed a big hit, a 2-run triple, for Washington in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Pettaway took a fastball from Mike Lancour and stroked the triple to right-center. His 2nd triple of the season allowed the Nationals to leap in front, 2-1.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Pettaway, "one at-bat at a time."
The triumph puts Washington at 42-30 for the season.
