Yankees Sneak By Mariners, 3-2
|
The New York Yankees got a strong performance from pitcher Garrett Stallings, who stymied the Seattle offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Yankee Stadium. The winner was Bobby Strange in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Jeff Jorgensen took the loss. The win has New York at 30-45.
Juan Contreras was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Yankees left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Seattle manager said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
