Tigers Best Guardians in Pitching Duel
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Progressive Field. But Braydn Cross conjured up just enough offense to carry the Tigers past the Cleveland Guardians, 1-0. Cross was 1-2 with a home run and a walk. Alex Salgado, credited with the save, is now 11 for 12 in save opportunities. The win for the Tigers raised their record to 48-48.
Detroit grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Cross, who is tied for 5th in the AL in triples with 5, hit a solo home run. His 10th home run of the season put the Tigers out in front, 1-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Detroit manager said.
