Pioneers Lose Late, 7-5
|
New Jersey shortstop Danny O'Neal was sensational. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Pittsburgh beat the Pioneers, 7-5. Jose Garciduenas earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-4. The victory puts Pittsburgh at 46-76.
Arol Vera drove in one run for Pittsburgh. The 27-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Alex Quinones. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Vera, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
