Pirates Lose 5-2 Decision to Cardinals
|
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2, in National League action at Busch Stadium. The standout performance belonged to St. Louis pitcher and Alpharetta, Georgia, native Dylan Cease. The save went to Mike Gasperino, his 29th this season. St. Louis improves to 67-66 with the win. They lead their division by 7½ games.
Dylan Carlson dealt the Pirates a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and St. Louis leading 3-2, Carlson, who finished 5th in the NL in hits with 179 in 2024, hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single.
Cease called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
