Padres Top Cardinals in Extras, 6-5
|
The San Diego Padres topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 6-5, with the largest share of the credit going to catcher Jorge Quiones. Quiones slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Padres. San Diego reliever Bobby McCaw picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Jack Flaherty was saddled with the loss. The second-place Padres go to 82-56.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 14th inning, when San Diego third baseman Joe Ketola, facing Jack Flaherty, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Padres the 6-5 win.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Jake Smith, the San Diego manager.
