Cubs Win Nail-Biter
|
Starting pitcher Joe Ransom pitched well enough to help the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-6. Eli Ramos notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record now sits at 1-1. Getting the save was Tony Gonsolin, his 1st.
The result might have been different, had it not been for Larry Perron, the Chicago first baseman. Perron had a run-scoring double in the top of the 12th inning to put the Cubs ahead, 7-6. For the game, Perron had 1 double and 3 singles in 6 at-bats.
"It was a test of wills," said Dumont Cubs, the Chicago skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
The Cubs, at 66-81, sit in second place in the National League Central Division.
