Pioneers Dominate, Sweep Round 1 Thursday, October 4th , 2029 Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Dominican Rookie League Round 1. It turned out quite a bit different. The New Jersey (DSL) Pioneers swept aside the St. Louis (DSL) Cardinals to advance to the Round 2, winning the final game by a 8-5 score at Las Américas Complex. The series MVP was shortstop Matt Swedlove, who hit .389 with a .450 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 2 runs. "We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it." The New Jersey (DSL) Pioneers will play against the Pittsburgh (DSL) Pirates in the next round. Pittsburgh (DSL) won their series against the Oakland (DSL) Athletics 4 games to 0.
