Yankees Best Dodgers in Pitching Duel
|
The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
In a tight contest at New Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees edged the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 2-1. New York right fielder Guillermo Rodríguez, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. New York reliever Ignacio Rosa picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Felipe Guerrero shouldered the loss.
The Yankees got an important contribution from left fielder Dave Welch, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a full count fastball into center for a solo home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 2-0.
In postgame comments to the New York Chronicle, Welch said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Yankees go to 19-20, putting them last in the American League Eastern Division.
