Red Sox Squelch Rockies Offense in Shutout Win
In a well-pitched game between the Boston Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies, pitcher Claudio Maldonado was superb. The Boston right-hander helped his team win, 3-0. The winning pitcher was Maldonado, now 3-2. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7. The third-place Red Sox have won 6 straight.

Boston used a well-timed hit by José Cruz to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Maldonado told the Boston Gazette. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
