Reds Come Up Short at Milwaukee
|
Milwaukee beat Cincinnati at Miller Park, eking out a 7-6 win. The win was due in large part to designated hitter José Vera, who earned player of the game honors. José Ortíz got credit for the win, improving to 5-7. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Vincente Rivera converted his 6th save in 11 tries.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Brewers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when center fielder Alan Gephart hit a 2-run home run. The home run came off Bob Hamilt and made the score 5-3, Brewers. Gephart was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.
"Good win," said Vera. "Maybe some of the whiners in the clubhouse will pipe down for a little while now."
Milwaukee now sits in third place in the National League Central Division at 74-81.
