Phillies Lose to Expos, 5-2
|
The Montreal Expos had to overcome a big game from Philadelphia center fielder Juan González to leave Citizens Bank Park with a 5-2 victory. González went 3 for 3 with 3 doubles. He drove in 2 runs. Justin Richards was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 11 save opportunities. The Expos saw their record improve to 60-101.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Expos had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the first, when center fielder Tomás Vargas hit a 2-run double. The double came off Floyd Hickey and made the score 3-0, Expos. Vargas was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Montreal skipper David Jones.
