Turner Blasts Padres, Phillies Take Game 1, 5-3
|
The Philadelphia Phillies started the Divisional in style today, winning on the road against the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park by a score of 5-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Phillies designated hitter Dan Turner was named player of the game after he went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2.
One important at-bat for Philadelphia came with two out in the top of the ninth inning. With a runner on 1st, Turner hit a 2-run home run, which contributed to the Phillies win.
When asked about his performance after the game, Turner said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Mario Soto for Philadelphia and Jim King for San Diego.
