The Cincinnati Reds got a good effort from starter Ricky Bray in defeating the San Francisco Giants at Great American Ball Park. The final score was 3-1. Tom MacVail earned the save for Cincinnati, his 5th. The first-place Reds are now 37-24, the Giants 29-32.
Nick Reed, who finished 5th in the AL in batting average with .310 in 2068, came through for Cincinnati with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. The third baseman went 2 for 3 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 1 run batted in.
"This was a tough loss," said San Francisco manager Tim Ackley. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
