Oakland and Los Angeles left the crowd in suspense until the last at-bat.

The Oakland Athletics had to overcome a fine performance from Los Angeles pitcher Nathan Rose to grab a 3-2 win at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Rose allowed 2 runs over 7.1 innings. Carlos Martínez earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record is now 2-3.

Oakland won the game in the bottom of the 13th inning. With no outs and Roy Cruz on the mound for Los Angeles, center fielder Félix Castillo hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Athletics fans to their feet.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Oakland skipper Cary Rosen.
