Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Pirates
The Chicago Cubs got a superb performance from pitcher Dennis Cain, but the Pittsburgh Pirates still won the game, 6-2. Cain threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. Curt Williams recorded his 26th save for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh improves to 55-44 with the win. They lead their division by 8 games.

The Pirates got a lift from shortstop John Simpson, who in the top of the ninth stroked a 0-1 cutter into right for a bases-clearing double. It was his 25th double of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 6-2.

Simpson attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
