The Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins obliged fans hoping for an exciting game.
Juan Baca was a major factor in the 7-6 Pittsburgh win over Minnesota. The Pirates second baseman went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Reliever Brian Giarratan picked up the win. His record improves to 6-2. Manuel Ramírez took the loss. Curt Williams earned the save, his 27th.
Baca contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Pittsburgh in the bottom of the eighth. With his team trailing 6-3, Baca took a fastball from Manuel Ramírez and stroked the home run to right. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Pirates to leap in front, 7-6.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Baca told the Pittsburgh Daily.
Pittsburgh is 59-49 and Minnesota, with the loss, 65-43.
