Pittsburgh had no answer for Minnesota Twins hurler Wes Bell, who overwhelmed Pirates hitters as the Twins coasted to victory, 6-1. The winning pitcher was Bell, now 10-6. He tossed 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. The second-place Twins go to 64-45.

Pepe Medrano had a nice at-bat for the Twins with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, the catcher grounded out, driving in 1 run, which would prove important in the Minnesota win.

"The more wins we pile up," said Medrano, "the more I like our chances."
