Los Angeles second baseman Xavier Martínez had a good game, even if his team did not. The Angels dropped a 5-4 decision to Washington at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Martínez went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Peter Smith recorded the save, his 27th. Washington has run its win streak to 6 in a row.

Washington used a clutch hit from Francisco Lafrosia to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Washington manager Ryan Martin.
