Mariners Take Down Tigers, 2-1
|
The Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers, 2-1, at Comerica Park. Starting pitcher Martin Davis was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Ryan Ankenman, credited with the win, is now 3-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. The win has Seattle at 50-81.
Seattle used the timely hitting of José Rivera to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mariners on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Detroit skipper Carl Phillips.
