The Minnesota Twins got a magnificent performance from pitcher Shane Sandoval, who muffled the Kansas City offense en route to a tight 3-0 Twins win at Target Field. Sandoval went 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 16-5. Víctor Ortega got the save, his 26th in 29 chances.

Raúl Rodríguez, who finished 4th in the AL in OPS with .944 in 2062, chipped in for Minnesota with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
