Mets Drop 6-3 Decision

2070 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the New York Mets.
The Detroit Tigers overcame a fine performance by New York first baseman Jorge Núñez to defeat the Mets, 6-3, at Citi Field. Núñez went 3-3 with 3 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. The win belongs to Leon Féliz in relief. His record improves to 5-0. Jim Swift took the loss for New York. Hamal bin Ra'id, credited with the save, is now 32 for 36 in save opportunities.
Detroit used a clutch hit from Luis Martínez to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Tigers ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Detroit manager Carl Phillips.
Detroit, at 93-49, is 9½ games up in the American League Central Division.
