Blue Jays Beat New York, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring contest, Toronto pitcher Pedro Parra was marvelous in his team's 2-1 win. Toronto reliever Edgar Martínez picked up the win, upping his record to 7-4. Dave Moser shouldered the loss. Lou Markakis picked up the save, his 29th.
Stan Encell, who finished 5th in the AL in wins above replacement with 5.8 last year, helped out the Toronto cause in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run. For the game, the third baseman went 1-4 with a home run.
"We were in it," said New York manager Mac Mckenzie. "We just didn't score enough runs."
With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 74-82.
