Dave Melton Strokes 3 Home Runs Friday, May 29th , 2071 Dave Melton of the Cubs went on a hitting spree at AutoZone Park today and earned membership in the select club of hitters who have hit three home runs in a game. He blasted three into the stands in a 9-8 loss to the Memphis Redbirds. "I'm not happy with the outcome of the game, but it was still a great game for me," Melton said in the clubhouse following the loss. "I have been making solid contact lately, but not getting any lift. Today I got it up in the air and out of the ballpark. I had my home run swing down pat. Got some good pitches to hit, too." The Iowa left fielder did indeed have quite a game, collecting 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 4 RBIs and scoring 3 runs. Dave Melton hit a two-run home run off Ben DeVogt in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Ben DeVogt in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Dave McHendry in the 8th and struck out in the 10th. Melton is hitting .357 so far this season with 23 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 50 hits including 7 home runs, 20 walks and .455 OBP. |
