Calandrini Strokes 5 Hits

After a 5-hit effort to lead NWL's 22-3 victory over the Vancouver Canadians, right fielder Alfredo Calandrini told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Northwest League-level is really something special."

The 21-year-old player earned his accolades today at Ed Smith Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Canadians.

"His swing is getting there," said Reds skipper , who spoke glowingly of Calandrini after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Alfredo did that to perfection today."

Alfredo Calandrini grounded out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Jesús Días in the 2nd, hit a three-run double in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Ismael Domínguez in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Ramón Guardado in the 8th.

So far this year Calandrini is hitting .320 with 18 home runs.
